BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT VS. KERATIN TREATMENT

THE BRAZILIAN CHOICE

BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT VS. KERATIN TREATMENT

by SWAG Barber Salon Philippines

Today, millions of beauty seekers all around the world are searching for ways to enhance the look, feel and health of their hair.

Both, Brazilian Blowout and Keratin Treatments are hair smoothing treatments used to straighten hair without causing any damage.  Both are supported by top salons and stylists all over the world and are successful at achieving the goals of the clients.

How they work is simple, the treatments bond and infuse protein to the hair.  This is how stylists achieve the smooth and shiny look.  Either product also protects, softens, and relaxes the hair as well, which is what gives the clients that straight look, feel and texture they so desperately desire. The key, is the tedious hot ironing process which is actually what creates the bond and makes the results semi-permanent –lasting up to 5 months.

When a client is looking to prevent tangles, repair damage from over bleaching, chlorine, pollution in the air, as well as, remove frizz, add shine, seal in color, and decrease blow dry time, both products can achieve those results.

However, in many popular and trendy salons and spa, such as SWAG Barber Salon & Boutique, the Brazilian Blowout is their signature solution.  In fact, SWAG Barber Salon is a US Brazilian Blowout Certified Salon and exclusively offers Brazilian Blowouts and not any Keratin treatments –except their hair spas and fortifying shampoo and conditioner treatments.

“At SWAG, despite the trendiness of Keratin and other smoothing serums and treatments, we are a Brazilian Blowout Certified barber salon.  It’s just more in line with our brand…we want everyone to leave looking finished and complete.  The real-Brazilian Blowout; as well as, other Brazilian-branded products achieve that without leaving my clients to wait days after the treatment, with chemical in their hair, risking damage and subsequent returns to the salon to repair.  Brazilian uses Amino Acids to rejuvenate and fortify the hair in an incredible way, unmatched by most other treatments.”  -Kareem Jackson, US Co-Founder, SWAG Barber Salon & Boutiques & US Executive Publisher of The Philippines Magazine International

The Brazilian Blowout Treatment gets its protein from a blend of amino acids and the results are incredible. Before the product is applied the hair is shampooed thoroughly and towel dried about 80%.

Once we apply the product, the hair is blow dried, and then flat-ironed. When the hair is completely dry we shampoo the hair and completely rinse out the product. Next we apply conditioner, rinse it out, and dry the hair one last time.  The full process takes less than 2-hours.

The Keratin Treatment is similar to the Brazilian Blowout; however, keratin treatments start with shampooing the hair and drying it completely. Next the product is applied and covered with a cap for roughly 20 to 30 minutes. The hair is then blow dried and flat-ironed. Clients leave the salon with the product in their hair and are asked to wash it out after three days.

The truth is, “Keratin Treatment” is unhealthy –especially to the stylists- and the name is misleading and something of a misnomer. The ingredients that actually matter —ammonium thioglycolate and sodium hydroxide—are just harder to pronounce.

Others, such as methylene glycol, formalin, methanal, and methanediol, release formaldehyde when heated or mixed with water. The high heat of a flatiron, used at the end of the process, accelerates the cross-linking of hair bonds. Some treatments dictate a waiting period before washing your hair—allowing cross-links to fully set—although the ones with the strongest concentrations of formaldehyde can allow immediate washing.

Benefits of Brazilian Blowout

One of the biggest benefits of receiving a Brazilian Blowout instead of a basic keratin treatment is that a Brazilian blowout is a lot more convenient. The process only takes about 90 minutes whereas other keratin treatments take between two and three hours to finish and you still need to wash out the product after three days.

Another benefit of getting a Brazilian blowout instead of another keratin treatment is that the process is done as soon as you leave the salon. You can do whatever you want with your hair and the look will last about three months. As mentioned earlier, other keratin treatments require you to wait three full days before rinsing out the product at home. During that time you can’t do anything that will crease your hair, such as putting your hair behind your ears or wearing barrettes or bobby pins.

Brazilian Blowouts don’t harm your hair in any way and we love seeing the look on a client’s face when the treatment is finished.

In addition, in most salons, The Brazilian Blowout Treatments are less expensive than the Keratin Treatments.  As well as, less costly to perform by the salon/stylist; due to the more than 50% service time needed to perform The Brazilian Blowout Treatment.  And, in many cases, the hair is left more-healthy, more-quickly than with traditional Keratin Treatments.
